Brass Masters: A local business

Brass Masters was once owned by Jim Hardman and Larry David and was located where the Village Antique Mall is on 14STW. Bo Keen stumbled upon Brass Masters in 2002 when his mentor Jim hired him as a cleaner.

"I actually got that job by accident," Keen said. "He called and was wanting a cleaner, and I was unemployed at the time, and went in thinking I was going to clean his shop like a custodian would."

Keen said he began to learn how to polish brass and rewire and restore chandeliers. Pictured (above) is a recent shining he did for Adell's Antiques, that is now priced for $75.

Nostalgia on 14STW

"Brass Masters has always been a part of 14STW," said Keen. "It needs to be back here. When you hear Brass Masters, everyone looks across the street at the Antique center."

Currently, Keen's shop is located on 20th Street and 9th Avenue. When Brass Masters closed, Keen opened his shop, using the name "Tri-State Metal Polishing", and now called, Brass Masters, once again. He continued to do the work he had grown to love under his mentor.

Important to the Central City District

"Brass polishing relates closely to antiques. A lot of people don't know that polishing brass is a thing," Keen said. He also added that he believed the business would benefit the district as it once did so many years ago. The process of restoring antiques is something that he became very passionate about while working under the previous owners of Brass Masters.

Remains in Business

Bo Keen will remain in business at 2010 9th Avenue in Downtown Huntington. He hopes to find a location on 14STW and put Brass Masters "back where it belongs."

Keen and his media team is working effortlessly on a website and business page for customers easily use and see his work. Until then, he can be contacted by email by emailing [email protected].
